“Rapidly Times at Ridgemont High” Is a strong contender for the best teen movie from the eighties.

The case for the movie is easy to make: It is written by Cameron Crowe, who wrote Jerry Maguire, Say Anything, and Almost Noted. It is beautifully filmed and directed. (Director is Amy Heckerling, who apart from being awefully cute has made such fabulous movies as Clueless.) It is laughable and actual. And it has a fine cast of young actors who where unknowns then.

The surfer/stoner is famously played by Sean Penn in one of his first roles, and he is awesome. Jennifer Jason Leigh is perfect as the young innocent fifteen-year-old. (Amazingly she was about 20 when she played it, but you’d never know it.)

Buy,Download, Or Stream Fast Times at Ridgemont High! Click Here

And Phoebe Cates… As Amy Heckerling says in a featurette: The boys objective loves Phoebe… the rental cassettes always track a lot around the location where she takes off her top, they’ve been freeze-framed so grand…” Which is as expedient a reason as any to procure the DVD version, they slow-mo and freeze-frame a lot better… But seriously, Phoebe is a astonishing actress who has been woefully underused by Hollywood. And she is also impartial stunningly cute to boot. Even if this film had nothing else going for it, pick up it for her. (She is also good in the later film Princess Caraboo, and she is buck nude in the light “Paradise”, which I hope they will place on DVD soon.)

Eolake

One of the classic high school movies, Rapid Times spawned a slew of teenage talent on the enormous cloak, but no one was more memorable in this movie than Sean Penn as Spicoli. Amy Heckerling cuts out a gash of Southern Californian life from a San Bernardino high school that shows both honor students and misfits alike. While the signature moments belonged to Spicoli, there were many other grand scenes such as the ongoing burger war in which Reflect Reinhold finds himself on the short ruin of the spatula. Meanwhile his dinky sis, a seemingly innocent Jennifer Jason Leigh, experiments with dating and sex with an comic pair of misfits, Brian Backer and Robert Romanus. Phoebe Cates tries to position her young prodigy straight but to no avail. Forest Whitaker even has a indispensable moment in this movie as the bruising defensive lineman who takes out the destruction of his prized car on the opposing team. Runt did he know that Spicoli had a hand in it. But, it is the hilarious relationship between Spicoli and Mr. Hand (Ray Walston) that steals the indicate. Like A Flash Times may appear a bit dated, but it hasn’t lost any of its humor.

Bob Hope, known for his dedication to enthralling our soldiers from World War II through the Persian Gulf War, stars in two pre-WWII military roles in this improbable double helping of Hope humor.

“Caught in the Draft” co-stars Hope leading lady Dorothy Lamour, Eddie Bracken, and the inimitable Clarence Kolb. A bit ancient overall, the comedy is nevertheless a fun farce as a weak-kneed movie star (Hope) finds himself drafted into the Army when all he really wanted was to con his modern girlfriend into marriage so he can avoid the draft. To complicate matters, his girl is the Colonel’s daughter, and the Colonel finds Hope to be a unpleasant soldier and an even worse choice for his daughter’s hand!

There are at least two really fun bits; one is a wild tank creep, and the other is when Hope has to go on guard duty without his uniform, and has to avoid being discoverd by Col. Fairbanks (Kolb) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Bob Hope Tribute Collection – Caught in the Draft / Give Me a Sailor Double Feature! Click Here

As Lamour commented in her autobiography (”My Side of the Road”), it was curious to discover Hope play a draft-dodger and goldbrick when compared to his real-life efforts to bring a small humor into the lives of our troops stationed overseas.

The accurate prize on this disc is “Give Me a Sailor”, a Hope film from 1938. Betty Grable, Jack Whiting, and Martha Raye co-star in this naval farce. Brothers (Bob and Jack), are in fancy with the same gal (Betty) . Meanwhile, Betty’s sister (Martha) is in adore with Jack. Bob and Martha draw to atomize up the romance between Betty and Jack so that each can fetch their prospective sweetheart. Naturally, comedic havoc ensues.

This film has more outright laughs than “Caught in the Draft”, and seems to be more tightly directed. I also really liked Martha Raye’s efforts here, and most of the loyal laughs near from her misadventures. I especially liked her character’s poignant reaction when she learns that Jack asked her to the astronomical dance unbiased so he can ditch her and consume time with Betty.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Bob Hope Tribute Collection – Caught in the Draft / Give Me a Sailor Double Feature! Click Here

The pre-war attitudes on indicate in both films are kind of irregular sparkling what was about to happen a only short time after they were released. The Army depicted in “Caught in the Draft” and the Navy depicted in “Give Me a Sailor” are both laden with WWI-level uniforms, customs, and equipment, making the films an unique sort of historical artifact.

That being said, the disc is a fun time for fans of Hope, Grable, Raye and Lamour. Getting two movies for the mark of one is also a excellent deal, and there are also production notes, cast profiles, and the trailer for each film on the disc.

This selection from the very welcome Bob Hope Tribute Collection gives the viewers of today an toothsome opportunity to perceive a comic glance at America as we were leaving the Depression and getting ready to defend our procedure of freedom. This is a very shimmering pairing that demonstrates through situations how important cultural changes can provoke laughter. If an occasional topical joke is not understandable to some of the younger audience there is always enough physical humor to preserve the comedy going. The 1938 “Give Me A Sailor” has the laughable and very talented Martha Raye in top billing with Bob Hope. Miss Raye has a sister played by Betty Grable. Mr. Hope is in the Navy and has a brother also in the Navy who outranks him. Hope’s brother is played by Jack Whiting. The brothers both want to marry Grable. Grable favors Whiting but also plays the field.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Bob Hope Tribute Collection – Caught in the Draft / Give Me a Sailor Double Feature! Click Here

Raye who is a spectacular cook is ignored. After a mistake in entering a contest, Raye is suddenly affluent and gets a total makeover. She acquires a glamorous wardrobe snd is seen in a recent light by everyone. There are many farcical situations to maintain the laughs coming. Raye and Grable both have some nice musical moments. The other feature, “Caught In The Draft”, from 1941

ties in nicely in this collection even though Martha Raye is not in it. She was perhaps the most favorite entertainer who went in person to entertain the troops in the Second World War. The troops all loved Martha Raye for her work during that period.

Bob Hope plays a carefree actor in “Draft” who tries to avoid the inevitable. He is trying to court Dorothy Lamour who is a colonel’s daughter. Hope’s attempt at avoidance of his military obligations cause Lamour to reject him. In order to regain her befriend he tries to be the best soldier that he can be. There are improbable farcical possibilties in any military narrate and they obsolete here. There are some reliable cameos by lesser known actors. My celebrated is that of Marie Blake(AKA Blossom Rock) as a gleeful castor oil dispensing nurse.
Electric Cigarette Review
Electronic Smokeless Cigarettes
Wholesale Designer Handbag
Electric Cigarette
Electronic Cigarette Review

everyone loves the songs. My husband and I declare them all the time and both my 3 year former and 1 year faded are enraptured by the cute animations and the fun music. My 3 year conventional randomly started singing the songs very often. I worship that this has 2 discs so it gives a exiguous variety, even though some of the songs are the same. Between the two, we find to hear all our current veggie sage songs.

When I was in Junior High a boy brought The Very Droll Songs to school and it became a tremendous hit! After my son was born I went searching for it, but could not glean it locally. So I turned to Amazon…Since we could grasp the DVD as a “two for” we went for it! As a result of our gamble our family has discovered that the Humorous Song Countdown is now our well-liked!
Electronic Cigarettes Starter Kit
Small Business Phone Systems
Increasing Credit Score
Increase Credit Score
Smokeless Cigarettes

This movie is half a century former and followed The Robe as the second Cinemascope feature. It’s visually sparkling in the DVD widescreen version, evoking the thrill of first seeing Cinemascope in 1953 (which I’m weak enough to remember) . Though the legend and humor are extremely dated and so many of its stars are now wearisome, the photography and sound are both so breathtakingly distinct and delicate, it makes one realize how advanced the technical side of filmmaking was that long ago. It’s astounding how cinematographers of that day were able to adapt so mercurial to the grand wider cover and remove chunky advantage of its sweep even during scenes filmed in end quarters, such as those on the airliner (which was a propeller plane, by the plan) . It’s factual that Lauren Bacall, though exquisite in the film, looks mighty older than the “25″ she’s supposed to be. (I saw Ms. Bacall in person pitching her bio at a bookstore 45 years later and she looked un-surgically young and dazzling, so go figure.) While the movie is not big in terms of allege or performances, it’s worthwhile because it’s a beautifully restored allotment of movie history that recaptures a more innocent (? ) age and preserves an considerable allotment of the Monroe record.

HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE was the first non-musical comedy to be released in the CinemaScope ratio. The film was released in 1953, which proved to be Monroe’s breakthrough, watershed year, with the success of MILLIONAIRE, GENTLEMEN Assume BLONDES and NIAGARA cementing her region as one of the top box-office attractions of 1953.

MILLIONAIRE is one of Monroe’s most appetizing offerings. She plays the visually-challenged Pola, who, along with Chotzi (Lauren Bacall – KEY LARGO, THE Grand SLEEP) and ‘Loco’ (Betty Grable – MOTHER WORE TIGHTS) rents a Manhattan penthouse in the hopes of snagging rich husbands.

Of course, Fate often hands you things totally unexpected, and soon the girls realise that money can’t be a substitute for happiness. There are plenty of pin-sharp observations about the opposite sex, a trustworthy 50-odd years before “Sex and the City” decided to earn a whole TV present about women in the Astronomical Apple.

After a long wait for the release of this classic 60s comedy, MGM has tossed the film on its forgettable pile. For what was an extremely successful adult comedy at the time; a return for Peter Sellers after his advance fatal heartattacks; the debut of Woody Allen, MGM has treated this film like the second half of a Chuck Norris double-bill. The DVD release is abysmal. It is compressed, it is not in the format of its theatrical release, the colors are washed out in MGM’s usual, generic, neo-colorization process. The print is sever. Sequences have been trimmed because they are no longer politically right. This is especially noticeable in the over-the-top Keystone Kops finale of the film. As an older viewer who saw this film in the theatre in 1965 (and many times thereafter), scenes from the unusual release are missing on this DVD. Although not outstanding and in questionable taste, the fact that they are missing is a disappointment. It is not a complete print of the modern release. The sound mix is terrible and that’s being polite. How one would wish someone who is composed alive and cares would give this film the kind of treatment that “Jaws” will catch. I detest MGM. They worn to be a studio of quality and now they are worse than Ted Turner in his colorization days.

“What’s Novel Pussycat” was Woody Allen’s first major film release. Filmed in the city of worship, Paris, the memoir centers around the very complicated fancy life of the character Michael James (Peter O’Toole), who is trying to end seeing other women so that he can focus on the one woman he really loves, Carol (Romy Schneider) . To back him overcome his sexual addictions, he seeks professional wait on from the pschotherapist Dr. Fritz Fassbender (Peter Sellers) . Unfortuneately for Michael, Dr. Fassbander is in greater need of psychotherapy since his sexual addictions are even more complicated. In the opening scene of the movie, Dr. Fassbender and his wife Anna (Eddra Gale) are fighting about one of his cherish affairs that she has discovered. She asks him, “Is she prettier than me? ” He responds, “Is she prettier than you? I am prettier than you!”.

Can Dr. Fassbender attend Michael overcome his addiction to adore affairs to procure Carol’s trust? You will probably relish discovering this acknowledge by watching this very humorous movie.
Smokeless Cigarette
Electronic Cigarettes Starter Kit
Gamefly Free Trial
Gamefly Free Trial

I did my footwork before purchasing this disc, so I wasn’t expecting a classic – I was merely expecting the Muppets to exhibit up.

Buy,Download, Or Stream It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie! Click Here

And reveal up they did. It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie is a decidedly mixed bag which will entertain longtime Muppet fans and impressionable rugrats, but anyone else is going to be mildly amused at best and flat-out bored at worst.

Listed as a 2002 production, the film showcases what’s left of the dilapidated energy of the ragged school Muppets ensemble: Steve Whitmire (as a curious Kermit), and to a lesser extent, Dave Goelz (as Gonzo in more of a supporting role) . The “newcomers” provide life to the cast, but also whisper the that these are not the Muppets of our youth – while Eric Jacobsen does a wonderful job filling in for Frank Oz’s roles (Piggy, Fozzy, Sam, Animal, even a cameo by Yoda) and Bill Barreta’s Pepe is as sly and comical as ever, other classic characters such as Scooter, Janice, and Rowlf are noticeably different, or even tranquil altogether. While the differences in the older Muppets are a result of the puppets suffering the death or retirement of their main puppeteers, some of the newer characters are as cringe-inducing as ever. Johnny Fiama, I’m lookin’ at you.

Buy,Download, Or Stream It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie! Click Here

The spotty lameness extends to the human roles, though not in places you might question. David Arquette is surprisingly not completely irritating in his role, and Joanne Cusak is appropriately harmful as the villain. But Whoopi Goldberg makes an uniteresting God (who does manufacture an bewitching God? ) and Matthew Lillard’s turn as a French director, is, well, um, he tried. Yes, he tried.

The film itself (or, the TV Movie itself) is not abominable, providing decent pacing, worthy production values, breezy, shiny writing, and even some treats for Muppet fans. There are several sweet in-jokes, such as when God rewinds to the beginning of Kermit’s sage, she stops at the tail extinguish of an interview with -ugh- Carson Daly, and Kermit says “…and that’s why I wear this laughable green collar!” Kudos for the subtlety of Scooter’s lame boast at the theater Christmas party, “My uncle stale to contain this theater, you know!”

Additionally, a few surprises await, and the only one I’ll give away is that Fozzie has an action sequence. Yes, an action sequence. It, like so distinguished else in the film, is decent while hovering perilously halt to being awful. But, to its credit, it’s something unique, and nothing is more recent than seeing the hard-luck Muppets of a “Kermit-less” universe, a bent world where Piggy is a Miss Cleo-like psychic living in a limited apartment with twenty cats.

Of final impress are the sheer amount of Muppet cameos in the film. Sweetums, Lew Zealand, Crazy Harry and even Beauregard – BEAUREGARD – design appearences, sometimes even with lines. It was a journey to survey characters long since retired shake the dust off at least one last time.

All in all, this is worth seeing for the casual Muppet fan, but perhaps only worth owning for those mild entranced by talking pieces of felt with googly eyes. For this franchise to survive, they’re going to have to occupy more risks, and It’s A Very Merry Muppet Christmas is a splendid first step.

I’m not really going to go too mighty into the plot; I will objective say it is a new muppet version of “It’s a Improbable Life” with some other movies thrown in the mix This movie has a lot of gargantuan names and guest appearances such as Whoppi Goldberg, Joan Cusack, and David Arquette unbiased to name a few, plus all of the muppets! The DVD version also has muppet bios, bloopers, and deleted scenes – although not as titillating as I had hoped, but composed nice slight extras. If you esteem the muppets, I would highly recommend adding this movie to your collection.
Electric Cigarette Review
How To Raise Your Credit Score
Smokeless Cigarettes
Wholesale Designer Handbag

Director Dario Argento “paints” an effective fright sage, he puts relatable people in relatable situations so we can assume into his film. Then very cleverly has dreamlike sets bursting with colors, we as viewers subconsciously know something isn’t good and I hold this exhaust of color subtly keeps us on edge. Even the title of the film, What is Suspiria? I googled it to procure it is a film by Dario Argento, so even the title has us subconsciously unsure going in. Although I could be unfriendly on that. Then add an unrelenting, nerve wracking, and haunting gather by Goblin (one of the most effective I’ve experienced) . We enter with Suzy into this academy and we know something isn’t accurate, we are experiencing what she is, it is like a dream and maybe nothing is spoiled, and with the blink of an peep this dream becomes a nightmare, we can conclude the dvd but what is Suzy going to do?
Hope this helps..

For those of us who consider that Wes Craven is the master of the scare genre, we can judge again. I’m speaking these words after watching “Suspiria,” one of the most gross and unpleasant anxiety movies ever made. Created by Italian director Dario Argento, the movie manages to be menacing and gory at the same time, and Argento fills his canvas with a titanic array of colorful yet bizarre colors, eerie lighting and camera techniques, and a soundtrack to top all awe soundtracks. In short, this is one hell of a scary movie!

The station is a basic one, more of a vehicle for Argento’s explorative imagination. It begins with a storm, as young Susy Banyon (Jessica Harper) arrives in Germany to help ballet school. Argento wastes no time in creating a sense of unease, from her cab streak to the school, as she watches the colors of street lights in the pouring rain, to the repugnant and outright malicious execute of a runaway student. All of this happens within the first ten minutes, which should be a message of what lies ahead (in other words, be prepared) .

The movie then takes us to the school itself, a fine array of gleaming colors and interpret plot pieces that assign the house in Robert Wise’s “The Haunting” to shame. Susy is shown the many rooms and introduced to the staff and students, though discovers that she will be rooming off campus. That is, until she begins to derive suspicious about queer occurrences, and the staff relocates her to the premises. Her suspicions mount higher, and she begins to wonder if there isn’t more to the ladies that race the academy.

You may score yourself forgetting the state leisurely all of this mayhem, but that’s perfectly reasonable, given the fact that Argento seems to be more alive to in attacking our minds than provoking them. And he succeeds in doing fair that, taking us into the darkest depths of alarm with his adept exercise of gore, bursting colors, camera movements and creepy sounds from all around.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Suspiria! Click Here

This is extremely unsettling stuff here, some of the most account for yet unbearable site pieces ever constructed for a film. The beginning cancel sequence is a accurate shocker, one that we sight coming, but never in such a grisly manner. Other sequences involve a blind man being attacked by his absorb seeing-eye dog, multiple stabbings, a girl’s corpse coming help to life… it never stops.

But it all works due to Argento’s ability to accept under our skin before monstrous us out of it. Before each scene of brutality, there is a fabulous buildup of suspense and panic, because even though we know what’s going to happen, we’re totally in the black as to how it will occur. He keeps us waiting impatiently by employing a slowly building soundtrack, heightened by listless camera movements that center on the faces of the person fervent.

“Suspiria” will remain in the memory long after its first viewing; in fact, you may never forget it. It stands out as a visionary masterpiece, one for the senses and the mind, a scare film that transcends the boundaries of the genre. I was intrigued by every dinky of this film, which keeps you in the moment long after it’s already passed.
Electric Cigarette
Small Business Telephone System
Increase Credit Score
Raise Credit Score
Electric Cigarette

Like most baby boomers, I’ve watched this film dozens of times in the past on broadcast TV, then VHS tape, then LaserDisc … but I had never actually SEEN “The Wizard of Oz” until this newly restored DVD came out. It’s an fantastic transfer. The sepia-tone Kansas sequences are startlingly titillating and determined, and the Technicolored world “Over the Rainbow” is truly pleasing. I found myself fascinated by details I had never noticed before: the glittering corn stalks in the Scarecrow’s field; the mirror-like floors of the Emerald City; the polished buttons on the guardsmen’s uniforms. Incredibly, even the individual grains of red sand in the Witch’s hourglass stood out and glistened! All these minor-but-sumptuous visual details served to heighten the magical spell that the film has always woven, enhancing the performances, the myth, and the music.

The DVD extras are a mind-boggling embarrassment of riches. The “Making Of” documentary hosted by the incomparable Angela Lansbury is worth the brand of the DVD alone, but there’s so worthy more: an international poster gallery, interviews with cast members, deleted scenes, production stills, radio clips, etc, etc. There’s enough material to withhold even the most casual viewer fascinated for hours, and a fair Oz buff will be occupied for days!

If you only bought a DVD player to examine this one disc, it would well be worth the expense. Treat yourself, and descend in esteem with this classic film again … for the first time.

I was unprejudiced critized for foisting off the following review of the 3-disk DVD situation as a review of the current Blu-ray. I didn’t; Amazon did. As anyone who’s been here for a while will witness, Amazon throws all DVD reviews into the same bucket, regardless of the edition. So don’t blame me.

I objective got the Blu-ray, and will have some comments on it at the raze.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Wizard of Oz! Click Here

There’s no need to discuss “The Wizard of Oz” itself, a classic among classics (though I’ll have something to say about its “philosophy” later on) . You probably want to know whether the UltraResolution transfer justifies the capture.

It does. Oh, yes it does.

“The Wizard of Oz” has always looked grand, one of the better Technicolor films. Unlike “Gone With the Wind”, which was generally unlit and desaturated, and which UltraResolution greatly improved, I didn’t request considerable enhancement for “Oz”.

Was I ever rotten. I stared with my jaw hanging originate. “Oz” is the best UltraResolution transfer by far — and the others were not exactly chopped liver.

The improvement in detail and sharpness is startling, especially as the unique prints did not seem obviously lacking in either. Even more improbable is the expansion of the tonal scale. Shadowy scenes (particularly those in the forest and outside the “witches” castle) are now filled with rich detail. Have you ever noticed how exquisite the Winkies’ red, white, and gray uniforms are? I hadn’t — until now.

These enhancements combine gain the biggest improvement of all — a major revelation of _texture_. The “feltiness” of many costumes is sure. The burlap of the Scarecrow’s face is now plainly visible, particularly in the close-up where he misstates the Pythagorean Theorem. And the Lion’s costume is a thick pile of fur you want to advance out and stroke. You can leer every last strand of hair.

I’m exaggerating only slightly when I say the improvements of this UltraResolution transfer are not powerful less than those from cleaning the Sistine Chapel’s frescos. It’s as if layers of murk and grime — that you never even knew were there! — have been stripped away. Until you plan it, you cannot imagine what this film (that is, the unusual camera negatives) _really_ looks like. It’s a shame the people who created “Oz” never got to behold it this diagram.

The image quality is so high that I often felt as if I were looking through a window at live performers. (Well, almost.) No matter what versions you already have, you won’t be disappointed with this one. I watched it twice in two days, and I might even conception it a third time tonight.

My only quibble is that several matte paintings do not blend properly, because the hues at the join lines do not match those of the scene. This could have been fixed; I suspect it seemed too considerable work for a minute improvement. (A friend suggested that these sorts of things are left in because videophiles like finding them.)

As to the differences between the two- and three-disk sets… The latter includes a packet of novel programs and promotional material of the sort we haven’t seen in 40 years ago. (Remember the 50-cent deluxe programs for road-show films? ) There’s also a position of 10 reproductions of Kodachrome publicity photographs. For this viewer, these extras alone explain the higher ticket.

The third disk will be of most interest to lovers of all things Oz. It includes a handsomely produced biography of L. Frank Baum (inviting enough that you might want to witness it more than once), plus all the restful Oz films and a Technicolor Oz cartoon. The existence of these is illustrious to anyone familiar with the history of Oz productions, but they’ve never appeared (as far as I know) in any home-video format.

The films are problematic. The two from Baum’s production company are the best — they have style, charm, and imagination. The others are cheesy ripoffs that beget exiguous relation to the novel book. The Larry Semon — a once wildly-popular but now virtually forgotten cartoonist and humorous * — version is especially detestable, as it is miniature more than a vehicle for Semon’s designate of physical comedy. The Baum estate is at least partly to blame — _any_ movie version must have seemed more comely than none, especially as the technology to compose a convincing version of “Oz” would not exist for another 15 years.

The film’s opening titles praise the book’s “valid philosophy”, which seems to be either “You already have everything you need to be satisfied”, or “The respond to your problems lies within yourself”. These are not so noteworthy “helpful” as reflections of the hard-nosed “All your problems are your enjoy fault” and “If you’re not a success, it’s because you’re sluggish” homilies that grew out of the ample opportunity for personal development and material success this country offered.

I have L. Frank Baum had something a bit different in mind. “The Wizard of Oz” is a fairy narrative in which magic has no bearing on the issues at the center of the legend. I fill Baum wanted to discourage children from fantasizing that magic could be a solution to one’s problems.

So… he has the four principals originate a grueling gallop to the Emerald City, then catch the wizard is a humbug. (What a shame the blander “deceptive”, “fraud”, or “phony” have replaced that luscious word.) He posesses no magic to supply wit, admire, or grit, which the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Cowardly Lion have demonstrated they already have.

Baum’s “correct” is simple — Cherish, wisdom, and courage are what we need to fetch through life. No one can _give_ them to us, because we _already_ maintain them, and all we need to do is whisper them.

“Is that moral? ”

“That’s all it is.”

Now… the ask you’ve been waiting for the acknowledge to… Is the Blu-ray situation worth the mark?

I viewed the Blu-ray on a Pioneer 60″ Pro Kuro, fed from a Sony BDP-S550. I also watched the DVD on the Pioneer (fed from the same Blu-ray player), and on a 36″ Sony 400-series WEGA “improved definition” TV (fed from a Sony DVP-S7000) .

The DVD remains a terrific DVD, and looks terrific on a high-quality 480i monitor. (Glance the preceding review.) It was, and calm is, a demo-quality DVD.

When played on the BD player, and upconverted to 1080p, the DVD’s image on the Kuro is glowing darn trustworthy — the sharpness and detail are at least “acceptable”. But when you play the Blu-ray disk, the image goes from “acceptable” to almost-startling. Two examples… Impress the enhanced detail and texture in the weather-beaten wood above the WWE’s dumb legs. And in the crowd scenes, you can leer (unprejudiced about) every Munchkin face. There is virtually no smearing of detail.

So… should you accelerate proper out in a buying frenzy and earn the BD edition? It depends.

The DVD is qualified enough for an obedient narrate on a high-quality SD monitor. But even upconverted, it isn’t marvelous enough for a _large_ HD prove. If you have, say, a 40″ display; your BD player has a helpful upconverter (not all do) ; and you don’t sit “on top of” the conceal (as I do) ; you might look shrimp inequity between the DVD and the Blu-ray.

But if you’re a video fuss-budget (as I am) and sit closer than the “experts” recommend (why _shouldn’t_ you? ), you will almost certainly catch the Blu-ray. It’s your call.

A few remarks on the extras… The wristwatch, as the kid in the Ally bank commercial says, is a share of junk. The make shows no particular style, wit, or imagination. And as others have said, “The Dreamer of OZ” is a poor transfer, very badly unpconverted to 1080. It is not of acceptable quality, and should have been set aside on the DVD disk.

I will reach encourage later (I hope) with some more comments on the sound and the other extras. Forcing yourself to repeatedly notice expansive chunks of a movie, regardless of its quality, is an ennervating experience.
Smokeless Cigarette
Working Hostgator Coupon
Hostgator Coupons
Electronic Smokeless Cigarette

Back in 1999 Image entertainment released a disc called “The Cartoons That Time Forgot – The Van Beuren Studio. This covered essentially the last release season of the studio’s existence, 1935-36, and encompassed all of the 3 strip Technicolor “Rainbow Parade” cartoons. The DVD release was largely through the efforts of Dave Shepard who had access to all of the 35mm “Commonwealth” materials, the film company which purchased these films upon the studios demise. Unfortunately the previous seasons 13 “two color” Technicolor releases went to the “Walter Gutlohn” company who released them for a brief period of time in 16mm Cinecolor compose. These 35mm source materials have never been found, and are generally considered “Lost”.

Having already produced two pleasurable DVD releases covering the Van Beuren studio’s preceding series, those featuring “Cubby Hold”, and “The Slight King”, Thunderbean Animation has now moved into this transitional Van Beuren film period, featuring cartoon films produced by animation legends Burt Gillett and Ted Eshbaugh. An arduous project, Steve Stanchfield reports that it took over four years to collate and transfer scarce 16mm Cinecolor and b/w films to complete this DVD!

In 1933 studio owner Amedee Van Beuren, dissatisfied with his overall dwelling in the cartoon short films market, brought in producer Burt Gillett, whose loyal claim to fame was being the director of “The Three Shrimp Pigs”, Walt Disney’s biggest cartoon hit up to that time. Of equal importance was Van Beuren’s additional hiring of Ted Eshbaugh, whom was one of the earliest animation producers to film in color. Eshbaugh had most recently produced a pilot film for a series of “Wizard of Oz” cartoons, which he pitched to the MGM studio brass in 1933. The company passed, opting instead to hire faded Disney animators, Hugh Harman and Rudy Ising, who had produced sound cartoons for Leon Schlesinger and Warner Brothers during the previous three seasons.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Van Beuren Studio’s Toddle Tales and Rainbow Parade cartoons! Click Here

Van Beuren believed that if his studio was to remain competitive, it needed to support scoot with the majors by consuming into color cartoon production. Eshbaugh obviously had the experience in this field, and his first film in the newly christened “Rainbow Parade” series was “Pastry town Wedding”. A predecessor to Disney’s later “Cookie Carnival”, the setting is in an imaginary bakery where miniature baker folk happily churn out delicious delicacies, to celebrate one of their chum’s wedding. Eshbaugh followed up this innocuous entry with a grand more visually striking title “Japanese Lanterns”. Unfortunately, of the 13 Rainbow Parade titles released this year, this was the only one to elude Thunderbean in color produce, so it is presented here in its “Offical Films” b/w version. (However it is well-known in the DVD that the UCLA archive is in the process of restoring a 35mm print, possibly the only one in existence) . But, this detriment is more than made up for by the third (and last) Eshbaugh directed short, “The Sunshine Makers”, probably the best known and appreciated title of the entire Rainbow Parade series. Sourced from a restored 35mm print licensed from Lobster Films of France. This restoration blows away any version you’ve ever seen of the “Sunshine” gnomes and their chronicle battle with the “Gloomies”! (Please peer the cloak caps with the listing)

Unfortunately Eshbaugh left the Van Beuren studio after completion of this cartoon, although it’s readily apparent he was alive to in the initial designs of “Picnic Terror” and “Spinning Mice”, given the many similarities in character perform and personality animation. The reasons for Eshbaughs departure are not specifically documented, but it is known that Burt Gillett was not an easy man to work with or for, and it is certainly possible that there was more than a diminutive professional “rub”.

Gillett’s first productions for Van Beuren were for a b/w series which was called “Chase Tales”. These were cartoon hybrids, based around live action footage of cute children antics book ending morality tales as told in animation acquire. Seen today they are charmingly nostalgic curios, but they also belie a sure strangeness. A prime example can be seen in the first title to be released, “Grandfather’s Clock”. Here live action footage of a painted human clock face escounced inside a wooden case is archaic to scold two itsy-bitsy children who are playing too hard with a bedside dismay clock. He then tells a chronicle of a joyful clock land where puny clocks go to school, and play football during recess. Has to be seen to be believed! Two more of these titles were also released, “Along came a Duck” and “A Shrimp Bird Told Me”. The series was apparently not well received, and Gillett may have reasoned this was because, as imaginative as they were, they needed color to really achieve the view over. Two subsequent titles “Spinning Mice” and the exquisite “Picnic Alarm”, continued with live action intro sections, bfore the plan was finally discontinued. Thereafter Gillett concentrated on featuring re-occuring characters, most likely trying to effect a starring character.

First up was a series featuring the inhabitants of “Parrotville” whom had appeared originally in Gillets first Van Beuren color cartoon “Parrotville Fire Department”. Next, a series of cartoons featuring 3 naughty kittens was tried out. This plan may have been brought with Gillett from Disney, as production of a “Three Microscopic Kittens” cartoon was underway before he left. “Merry Kittens” and “The Rag Dog” both had the kittens tormenting their canine counterparts to fairly high extremes. Gillett then tried out a bovine lead, (later dubbed Molly Moo Cow) who first appeared as the antagonist in “Picnic Dread”. “The Hunting Season” moves her into a more fearless role protecting her forest animal friends. This was the only regular character to carry over into the next season, and it does cause one to speculate if Gillett really had the patience (or ability!) to acquire a star character. Certainly Van Beuren was concerned, as he purchased the film rights for Felix the Cat, and “The Toonerville Trolley” soon after.

Another distinct detriment was that Disney had a contractual lock on the current 3-Strip Technicolor process. The best system Van Beuren had available was the older two color technology, (meaning blue and orange are the vital colors) and this limitation also indirectly contributed to the unique scarcity of these titles on color filmstock. Cinecolor is a double emulsion stock meaning it is applied to both sides of the unpleasant element and is subject to twice the wear points of a one sided element. Accordingly they are more easily damaged, and simply wear out faster. This is readily apparent on a few of the titles we study in this collection. In the liner notes Steve Stanchfield mentions that to reveal these cartoons in their best possible spot he often had to expend various parts of different prints for each title.

All in all this is a inviting collection of very RARE golden age cartoons. That it took four years to save these all together is not surprising, considering their checkered history. Like most chronological DVD compendiums there are a few clunkers, but most of these are quite spirited. And you will never acquire a nicer version of the Sunshine Makers anywhere else! It’s worth the take mark to have this restoration alone! Highly Recommended!

Although Diamonds Are Forever is a fairly stale entry in the James Bond series, the special edition DVD of this movie must harmful among the best of all the 007 releases. The half-hour Inside Diamonds Are Forever documentary is both outstanding and informative, featuring such items as the background record slow Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd (including new interviews with actors Bruce Glover and Putter Smith), and a enthralling revelation by Jimmy Dean, who admitted to some discomfort in portraying a thinly-disguised Howard Hughes-type character when his accurate life boss at the time was, in fact, Howard Hughes. The 45-minute biography of Cubby Broccoli is almost worth the ticket of the DVD alone, and the inclusion of four deleted scenes nicely pieces together what was originally an editing nightmare for this film, especially Plenty’s mysterious appearance in Tiffany’s pool. One final note: the Bond filmmakers have always prided themselves in delivering sanitized sex scenes without resorting to gratuitous frontal nudity. However, when running the scene in which Bond helps Marie “net something off her chest” in monotonous motion, during the pre-titles sequence, her left breast, including tubby nipple, is clearly revealed. In genuine time, the scene plays so quickly that nothing can be seen, but it’s a powerful different legend in lifeless motion.

This Bond movie has it ALL. No doubt one of my favorites in the whole 007 empire. Tiffany Case is probably my celebrated BOND girl, because she is no doubt the abominable girl of BOND girls. The action in this movie only stops to let the clevage note, in short there is never a slow moment in this 007.

Sean Connery flirts with ALL the chicks, if he had class in the modern handful of movies, well he completely did away with that in this venture. He’s a wise cracker in this one, which adds a lot of wit to this. Quirky, clever dialouge all around…

“Which do yo lift, blondes or brunettes? ”

“Either, as long as the collars match the cuffs.”

Then theres Plenty O’Toole (ha hah) also a very resplendent runt chick, even though she gets drowned somewhat early on in the film.. oh well, it left more room for Tiffany Case to urge around half naked for the rest of the time…. Outstanding rump shot while she’s switching the cassette tape inside the laborotary. “Showing a slight more cheek than usual, Miss Case? ”

Lets not forget that Q is very point to in this one, like when he’s rigging the slots in the casino, and wins every time. There is also a whole cast of other broad characters in this, and the space goes from one state to the next very speedily… sometimes the 007 movies can find a dinky tedious, but this one never stops.. even the opening credits with the theme sung by Shirley Bassey is radiant icy. If you don’t really gather down on the BOND franchise, you detached may like this, as objective a witty, fun, action movie. Jimmy Dean (yeah, the sausage guy) plays billionaire William Whyte.. another fair addition. By the contrivance, in case I didn’t mention it, Tiffany Case is like the hottest BOND girl ever… IMHO.
Smokeless Cigarette
Lumosity
Free Brain Training
How To Raise Your Credit Score
